Resize Image to 10KB Online
Choose an image, keep 10KB selected, set the pixel size your form needs, and download a JPG under 10KB. The image is processed on your device. Below: what fits in 10KB, and why "10KB" on a form is sometimes a minimum, not a maximum.
Paper cleanup is available for signatures. Turn it off for photos.
What fits in 10KB?
10KB is the smallest limit you will usually see on Indian application forms. It is mostly used for signatures, left-thumb impressions, and very small photo boxes on older portals and scholarship forms.
A 10KB JPEG can only hold a small image. A signature on white paper fits easily because most of it is plain background, but a photo needs to be small in pixels — around 150–250px wide — to look clear at 10KB.
Is 10KB your maximum or your minimum?
Read the line on the form again before you resize. "Signature: 10KB to 20KB" means the file must be at least 10KB, and a 9KB file is rejected just like a 25KB one. The SSC notices KbSnap has checked, for example, ask for a signature between 10KB and 20KB. If that is your case, use the 10KB–20KB signature page instead, which enforces the minimum as well as the maximum.
If the form says "maximum 10KB" or "up to 10KB", this page is the right one. Aim a little under the limit, around 9KB, so the file still passes if the portal counts a kilobyte as 1,000 bytes rather than 1,024.
Fewer pixels beat lower quality
There are two ways to make a JPEG smaller: lower its quality or lower its pixel size. At 10KB the order matters. A 600×250 signature squeezed into 10KB turns blocky around every stroke, while the same signature at 300×120 fits comfortably at high quality and looks crisp on the portal, which shows it small anyway.
So set the pixel size first. If your form lists one, type it in exactly. If it does not, start with the suggested sizes in the table on this page, process, and look at the result. Only if it still does not fit should you let the quality drop further.
Getting a signature or thumb impression ready for 10KB
Sign with a black pen on plain white paper and photograph it in daylight, holding the phone straight above the page. Shadows and grey paper turn into noise, and noise is expensive in a small JPEG. Paper cleanup in the tool turns the background pure white, which is often what makes the difference between 14KB and 8KB.
For a thumb impression, use enough ink for the ridges to show but not so much that they merge into a blot. Crop to the print with a small margin. Then open the downloaded file at full size and check that the signature or ridges are still clearly readable before you upload it.
Suggested pixel sizes for a clear 10KB JPG
| Image type | Suggested size | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Signature | 140×60 to 300×120 px | White paper compresses very well |
| Thumb impression | 200×200 to 240×240 px | Keep ridges dark and sharp |
| Small photo | 150×180 to 200×230 px | Larger photos lose detail at 10KB |
Use the exact pixel size your form lists, if it gives one.
Still over 10KB, or too blurry? Try these
- Form says 10KB to 20KB?: Use the range page so the file lands above the minimum as well as below the maximum.
- Photograph the signature again: Daylight, black ink, white paper and a straight-on shot shrink far better than a shadowy photo.
- Understand KB, pixels and DPI: Why pixel size, not DPI, decides how small the file can get.
- iPhone photo will not open?: Convert HEIC to JPG first, then resize it to 10KB here.
How to use it
- Upload a JPG, PNG, WebP, or iPhone HEIC image.
- Keep 10KB selected, or enter the exact maximum from your form.
- Set width and height in pixels and crop tightly around the signature or face.
- Process and check the actual KB before downloading.
Tips for a readable 10KB file
- Crop away empty paper — fewer pixels leaves more bytes for the ink.
- Use black ink on plain white paper and keep paper cleanup on.
- For photos, reduce the pixel size before lowering quality.
- If the form also has a minimum (such as 4KB or 5KB), do not shrink the pixels too far.
Frequently asked questions
How do I reduce a photo to 10KB?
Upload it, keep 10KB selected, set a small pixel size such as 200×230, crop, and process. KbSnap finds the highest JPEG quality that fits.
Why does my 10KB photo look blurry?
The pixel size is too large for 10KB. Reduce the width and height, or check whether your form allows 20KB.
Can I resize a signature to 10KB?
Yes. Signatures are ideal for 10KB. Crop tightly and keep paper cleanup on so the background turns clean white.
Can I convert PNG or HEIC to a 10KB JPG?
Yes. PNG, WebP, and iPhone HEIC images are converted to JPG automatically.
Is there a watermark?
No. KbSnap is free, with no watermark and no signup.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Resizing and compression run in your browser.
