Resize Image to 200KB Online
A 200KB limit leaves plenty of room. A full-page scan or a 1600-pixel photo can stay sharp under it. The tool below is set to 200KB and keeps your imageโs pixel size. Below: when 200KB is only the upper limit of a range, and what to do if a file still comes out too big.
The original width and height are kept unless you change them. The KB size is checked before you download.
200KB is a ceiling, not a target
When a form says โup to 200KBโ or โ10โ200KBโ, any file inside that range is accepted. Nothing makes a file at 195KB better than one at 80KB, and squeezing every last KB out of the limit gains nothing. What matters is that the file is readable and keeps whatever else the form asks for: pixel size, background, or how much of the frame your face fills.
Most phone photos are 2โ5MB, so getting under 200KB mostly means saving the JPEG at a lower quality, often without any visible change. Only very detailed or very large images, such as a 12-megapixel photo of a textured certificate, also need fewer pixels. If you have to shrink the pixels, a width of about 1600 px for a photo or 1400โ1800 px for an A4 scan is still sharp at 200KB.
Exam photos with a 200KB upper limit
Several National Testing Agency exams accept a photo between 10KB and 200KB. A file size in range is only half the rule. The bulletins also ask for a recent passport-size photo with a white background and your face, ears visible and without a mask, covering most of the frame. A wide 1600-pixel phone photo compressed to 200KB passes the size check but can still be rejected for framing.
For these exams use the exam page linked in the table below instead of this generic tool. It opens a crop box with the right shape for a passport photo and checks the KB range. Each exam page shows when its preset was last checked against the official bulletin.
Documents that fit comfortably at 200KB
For a document uploaded as an image, 200KB is enough for a whole A4 page with small print: a marksheet, a degree certificate, a caste or income certificate, or both sides of an ID card side by side. Crop to the paper edge before you compress. A dark table or bed sheet around the page costs bytes and makes the text smaller once the image is scaled down.
If the form wants several pages in one file, it almost always wants a PDF, not an image. Combine page photos with JPG to PDF, or compress an existing PDF with Compress PDF to 200KB. Both are linked below.
Before uploading, open the downloaded file and zoom in on the smallest print, such as a roll number, a date or a seal. If you can read it on your phone screen, the person checking your form can too. If not, crop tighter or raise the width before you compress again.
Exams where the photo limit tops out at 200KB
| Exam | KbSnap photo preset |
|---|---|
| NEET UG | 275ร354 px ยท 10โ200KB |
| JEE Main | 275ร354 px ยท 10โ200KB |
| UGC NET (NTA) | 413ร531 px ยท 10โ200KB |
Limits and presets are from each exam page, which shows when it was last checked against the official bulletin. Confirm in the current bulletin before you apply.
Still over 200KB? Try these in order
- Lower the width, not just the quality: Set the width to about 1600 px for a photo or 1400 px for a scan, then compress again. Fewer pixels keep detail better than very low JPEG quality.
- Crop and rescan the document: Crop to the paper edge and shoot in even light. Shadows and background texture are what make scans heavy.
- Convert iPhone HEIC photos first if your form rejects them: This tool already reads HEIC. Use the converter if you only need a JPG copy without resizing.
- Several pages? Make one PDF instead: Combine the page photos into a single PDF with a 200KB limit rather than forcing them into one image.
How to use it
- Choose your photo or scan (JPG, PNG, WebP or iPhone HEIC).
- Leave 200KB selected, or type the exact limit printed in your form.
- Keep the original size, or enter the width and height your form asks for.
- Process, zoom in to check the result, then download.
Getting the most out of 200KB
- If your form gives a range such as 10โ200KB, anywhere inside it is fine. Donโt chase 199KB.
- Shoot documents from directly above so the text lines stay straight and need no rotation.
- Turn off your cameraโs HDR or beauty filter for document photos. It adds texture that costs bytes.
- Keep the original file. Compress a fresh copy if you need to try a different size.
Frequently asked questions
Is it better to be close to 200KB or well under it?
Either is fine as long as the file is inside the stated range. A clear 90KB file is better than a 199KB file that only just fits, and it leaves room if the portal adds a little when it saves the upload.
My exam says 10โ200KB. Can I use this page?
It will get the size right, but exam photos also have framing and background rules. For NEET UG, JEE Main or UGC-NET, use the exam page linked in the table. It crops to a passport-photo shape and checks the range.
What resolution should a 200KB photo have?
Up to about 1600 pixels on the long side stays sharp at 200KB. If the form gives exact pixel dimensions, enter those instead, and the tool compresses to fit both the pixels and the KB limit.
Why is my 200KB image still blurry?
The original was probably very large or full of fine texture, so it was squeezed hard. Lower the width to about 1600 px first and compress again. Fewer pixels at a higher quality look sharper than many pixels at a low one.
Can I turn an iPhone photo into a 200KB JPG?
Yes. Choose the HEIC file directly. It is converted to JPG and compressed to 200KB on your device in one step.
Does the image leave my phone or computer?
No. Resizing and compression happen in your browser, and the file is never sent to KbSnap.
