SSC CGL Signature Size 2026: 10–20KB, 6 × 2 cm, and a Live Photo

In the SSC CGL 2026 form your photo is taken live through a webcam or phone, so the only image you upload is your signature: a JPEG between 10KB and 20KB, about 6 cm wide and 2 cm high. Resize it below; nothing is uploaded to KbSnap.

Official requirement: SSC Notice of Combined Graduate Level Examination, 2026: the photograph is captured live through a webcam or mobile device while filling in the form (no cap, mask or spectacles, plain background), so no photo file is uploaded. The signature is uploaded in JPEG/JPG, 10–20KB, about 6.0 cm wide × 2.0 cm high; blurred or miniature signatures are rejected. KbSnap's signature preset is 708×236 pixels (6 × 2 cm at 300 DPI).

SSC CGL photo is captured live

SSC's recent notices say the photograph is taken live through the online application or the mySSC app, so you may not need to upload a photo file. The signature is still uploaded — use the Signature step below. If your form does ask for a photo upload, the photo specs above apply. Check the official SSC notice board.

What the SSC CGL size rules mean

  • The SSC CGL photo is a portrait with the same shape as a 35×45mm passport photo at 275×354 pixels.
  • Its 50KB photo limit is stricter than the typical 60KB across the 14 central government exams on KbSnap (7 of 14 allow a larger file).
  • The signature box is a wide box (3:1), 3 times wider than it is tall at 708×236 pixels, 10–20KB.

Tips for this spec

  • 50KB is tight for a 275×354 photo. A plain light background and even lighting leave more of the file size for your face, so it stays sharp.
  • The photo must be at least 20KB as well as at most 50KB. A file that is too small is rejected too, so check both numbers in the result before you download.
  • The signature box is very wide. Sign on one line and crop tightly above and below the ink so it fills the frame.

Same photo and signature spec: SSC Stenographer Grade C & D, SSC Selection Post. If you are applying to these too, files made here should also fit — but confirm each notification, since specs change between cycles.

Verify the current requirement on the official SSC CGL website before you upload. Sizes can change with each notification.

How the SSC CGL upload works now

The way SSC collects your picture has changed. Under the 2026 CGL notice, the photograph is taken live with your webcam or phone camera while you fill in the form, so most candidates no longer upload a photo file at all. The file you still have to prepare is the signature, and that is where most last-minute problems happen.

The signature has to be a JPEG between 10KB and 20KB, about 6 cm wide and 2 cm high. Both limits matter. Many candidates compress a scan as far as it will go and end up with a 6KB file, which the portal rejects in the same way as an oversized one. KbSnap’s signature step starts at 708×236 pixels, which is 6×2 cm at 300 DPI, and aims for a file inside the 10–20KB window, so you can see the final size before you download.

Getting a clean signature on a phone

Sign with a black or dark blue pen on plain white paper, and make the signature large enough to fill most of the box. A small signature in the middle of a big white area is what SSC calls a miniature signature, and it is a common reason for rejection. Photograph the page in daylight without flash, holding the phone flat so the paper does not look like a trapezium.

After you upload, crop close to the ink and leave “Clean paper background” switched on. It turns grey paper and shadows white, which also helps the file land inside the KB range. If the result says the file is under 10KB, lower the cleanup threshold or switch cleanup off so a little paper texture is kept; if it is over 20KB, crop tighter around the ink.

Before you submit

Open the downloaded file once on your phone to check that it is sharp and readable. If the form does ask you for a photo file, use the photo step on this page, but follow the live-capture instructions first: no cap, mask or spectacles, and a plain background behind you. Specs can change between cycles, so compare the sizes with the notice you are applying under.

Common reasons SSC CGL uploads are rejected

  • The photo is captured live through a webcam or phone while you fill in the form. Remove any cap, mask or spectacles and sit in front of a plain background before you start.
  • A blurred signature, or a miniature one that fills only a small part of the 6 × 2 cm box, is rejected. Sign large on plain white paper and crop close to the ink.
  • The signature file must be JPEG/JPG between 10KB and 20KB. A file under 10KB is rejected just like one over 20KB, so check both numbers before you upload.

How to resize your SSC CGL documents

  1. 1. Upload: choose a clear JPG, PNG, or iPhone HEIC photo or scan.
  2. 2. Crop: frame your face or signature inside the box shown for each document.
  3. 3. Process: KbSnap resizes to the exact pixels and compresses into the allowed KB range.
  4. 4. Check and download: confirm the pass/fail result, then upload the file to the SSC CGL portal.

Files are processed in your browser and are never uploaded to KbSnap.

Frequently Asked Questions

What photo size does KbSnap use for SSC CGL?

The KbSnap preset for the SSC CGL photo is 275×354px, 20–50KB, in JPG format. Confirm these numbers in your current notification before you upload, and aim for the middle of the KB range so a re-save does not push the file over the limit.

What signature size does KbSnap use for SSC CGL?

The KbSnap preset for the SSC CGL signature is 708×236px, 10–20KB. Sign on plain white paper in the ink colour your notification asks for (black is the safest choice) and crop tightly so the signature is clearly readable.

How do I reduce my SSC CGL signature to 10–20KB?

Upload your scanned signature in the Signature step above, adjust the crop, and process it. KbSnap resizes it to 708×236px and compresses it into the 10–20KB range, then shows a pass/fail check before you download.

Any special rules for SSC CGL?

The SSC CGL 2026 notice says the photograph is captured live while you fill in the form, so you do not upload a photo file. The signature is uploaded as a JPEG of 10–20KB, about 6.0 cm wide × 2.0 cm high; blurred or "miniature" signatures are rejected.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. Cropping, resizing, and compression all happen in your browser using the Canvas API. The file never leaves your device.

Why do different exams need different sizes?

Each exam body sets its own portal validation rules independently — there's no shared standard across UPSC, SSC, banking, and state PSCs.
